Female Genital Mutilation - FGM - is a global issue that continues to present challenges for Soroptimists when attempting to improve the lives of women and girls. Though a difficult subject to discuss, it is important that we face the ugly truth about FGM.
The 3rd Biennial Southwest Conference Against Trafficking (SWCAT), took place in Ontario California, from 11 - 13 January 2018. Over 200 conference participants gathered together from 8 states in USA, and two countries – approximately 30 of whom were Soroptimist members.
The first of five projects to be supported on five continents, the International President’s Appeal 2017-2019, ‘Women, Water & Leadership’ is funding the Mwihoko Women Group in Kenya, which formed in 2005, with the aim of improving the economic and social livelihood of its membership of 22 women.
While there is no doubt that progress has been made both in access to water and sanitation and in the protection of fresh water sources, it is still true that in some countries, and particularly in rural areas, high water stress levels indicate a scarcity of water in the future.
