Many will know that for several years my main interest in CSW is its role in celebrating and promoting gender equality, reminding the world that we still have a long way to go to achieve this. Since 2015, SDG 5 has given a focus to gender equality, but as we keep reminding ourselves, gender equality also features in all the other SDGs.

The audience heard that 200 million girls were alive today who had survived FGM and that an additional 68 million could be victims of this brutal practice in the by 2030. In addition, 500,000 women or girls living in the US were described as being at risk or having undergone FGM.
