The UK Mission and Civil Society held their first joint event at CSW62 - A flagship occasion organised by the UK Gender Equality Office and UK CSW Alliance.

Rural women are the key agents in sustainable development and their empowerment is vital to achieving the full, effective and accelerated implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

"One of the most amazing experiences in returning to CSW is that of meeting inspirational women. Some of them are those whom we meet every year. Long-term campaigners and activists who never give up on the cause they are fighting for.

"St Patrick’s Day is approaching fast in New York. It is celebrated here with even greater enthusiasm than in Ireland. On 14 March, the NGO briefing was led by the Republic of Ireland Chair of CSW, Ambassador Geraldine Nason Byrne, who proclaimed her 'Irishness', but demonstrated that she is an international woman by switching between French, English and Irish Gaelic during the course of a half hour conversation.

At the Commission on the Status of Women there are hundreds of possible panels, workshops and events to attend. Cathy Standiford, Soroptimist International of Americas, joined NGO representatives from many countries, for an informal conversation on women's participation in decision making at all levels, to protect the rights of women and girls, and prevent gender-based violence and war.

The power of storytelling to transform lives and communities was on display Wednesday 14 March at CSW62. A side event entitled "HerStory: Her Voice. Our Future - Championing Girl-Driven Community Change" illustrated girls' education, empowerment and enablement at the grass roots level in three countries.
