The training sessions focused on health and hygiene, leadership skills, gender equality, menstrual health management and financial literacy. Local women and girls learned about their rights, the importance of education and how to advocate for themselves and others in their communities. One of the standout components of the programme was the Menstrual Health and Hygiene training, where participants were taught how to make reusable sanitary pads and how to maintain proper hygiene practices. This not only addressed period poverty but also helped to reduce school absenteeism among girls, allowing them to continue their education without interruption.
Additionally, leadership workshops provided young women with the tools to express themselves confidently and take active roles in community decision-making. The financial literacy training empowered women to better manage household incomes and explore opportunities for small-scale business development, enabling greater economic independence.
The training sessions were delivered in safe, inclusive spaces and facilitated by skilled local trainers who used interactive and culturally sensitive methods. The ripple effect of this project is already being felt, as participants are beginning to share their learning with peers and family members, creating a wider culture of empowerment.
By supporting the Cambodia Community Dream Organisation, Soroptimist International Foundation is helping to transform lives and lay the foundation for long-term gender equality and sustainable development in Cambodia. The project is a powerful example of how strategic training can unlock opportunity and inspire lasting change.
