The SI Club Toamasina focuses on empowering young women through sewing, business communication and computer training. A key feature of the programme is the production of reusable sanitary napkins.
Digital Training
With the support of the Soroptimist International of Europe (SIE) Disaster Fund, the project targeted 30 women, offering them vocational training through the TeachMe centre in fields like Social Media Marketing (SMM), Graphic Design and UI/UX Design.
A Computer Literacy and Skills class was held for women living in severely economically deprived communities in Mumbai. Most of these women are dropouts at school level and have never undertaken technology training. A three week basic computer course was held where the women were taught MS Office, usage of the internet and how to avoid cyber crime.
Many older people have not had the opportunity to learn how to use IT, yet many systems rely on it as a prime means of communication. They can feel isolated as a result and unable to benefit from the advantages that the technology can bring.
Soroptimist International’s partnership with ‘Restore a Sense of I Can’ (RSC) project is an empowering initiative designed to close the gender digital divide by providing essential digital skills to women and girls living in the Caribbean.
